As part of a food / restaurant-themed issue, we profiled a series of prominent chefs. During the initial brainstorming session, I proposed the mix of black and white / color images to provide contrast between the food and people.
General nathanael Greene visits his namesake




Greensboro, North Carolina, was named after the Revolutionary War’s Gen. Nathanael Greene. We thought it would be fun to have him “visit” and write about current attractions. An ex-columnist agreed to don a uniform and make the trip to a historical museum, a battleground and the brewery also named after him.
New Year: Adult dance classes
A January issue touched on “betterment” in the new year. Adult dance classes are becoming more popular, so we went to three studios for a taste of what it’s like.
escapes: summer day trips




Day trips are a good way to explore areas close to home without breaking the bank. We published a short guide to “Escapes” within an hour of Greensboro, complete with a map, drive times and alternate attractions.

discover guilford, 2018 & 2017
The annual Discover Guilford special section was a chance to break away from expected daily design. Over several years, I ran with different styles and themes, oftentimes making photographs as well. The cover for the 2017 version did not follow the vertical month format I created for the inside pages.
