Tri-X and P3200 were my staples for years when I worked in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. These are a small selection of images from those years.

The Forest Park Ranger Marching Band in Ferdinand was perennially one of the best in Indiana. Before competitions, the flag corp went through a team building ritual. The image was part of a photo story on their entire season, from first practice until getting on the bus after the state finals. The story won third place in a national monthly clip from the National Press Photographers Association.

A daughter consoles her mother after a traffic accident in Jasper, IN. Neither was seriously hurt. The image was later published as a page in LIFE magazine and was used for several subscription advertisements.

A resident of Petersburg, Ind., was asleep on his couch when a tornado ripped part of the roof off. He calmly sips a cup of coffee the morning after the storm. Seven people were killed when the tornado came through the middle of town.

Jasper, Ind., and the surrounding area is home to a large furniture manufacturing community. This image of finish work on a high-end desk was a lead image in the 5-page, tabloid-sized spread.
